When the pandemic hit Melbourne in March 2020 I found myself with more spare time on my hands as the events industry got completely shut and we were forced to work from home on reduced hours. I felt like I suddenly had so much time on my hands, and I wanted to do something meaningful to bring happiness to people. With spirits low across the city that I love I wanted to stay positive, creative and help others in the best way I knew how.
In April i started a weekly delivery service called #Flowers For Friends so people could send flowers to their loved ones to brighten their day. I kept the colours bright and vibrant. I knew money was tight for everyone, so I didn’t name prices, I got people to tell me how much they wanted to spend and made up bunches based on that. I also offered free delivering as my way of spreading the joy and love. In a year of lockdown, uncertainty and working from home - a bunch of pretty flowers could go a long way.
I then began collaborating with friends and family by celebrating their talents to elevate our Party Plants offerings. I have curated hampers with my amazing sister Brigette who bakes all the sweet treats (have you tried her Choc Brownies?), my supportive Mum (find her on Instagram @OrganicDebs) who made all the special fabric masks for Father’s Day, Dem whose new fabric masks are just beautiful, my wonderful friend Mia’s artwork will be featuring on our cards, my bestie Anna has done a fab job with the website copy, coffee from favourite local cafe and goodies from my neighbourhood small businesses. Plus my two main men Andy (human kind) and Marlo (dog kind) help with the deliveries when I have too many to handle.
My favourite part of the doorsteps deliveries are always people’s smiles, the beautiful messages and photos of their flowers brightening their day. I’m so glad to be able to spread some joy in this time. Party Plants has evolved into some special during this pandemic, into a celebration of flowers, friends, love and positive spirit.
Hopefully see you on your doorstep soon.
